I was 19 when I got my first real job. I started out part-timing it as a bookstore clerk, and felt like I was the luckiest girl on the planet, surrounded all day by fantasy literature and comics. My nerdy disposition was no secret – I was into most things geeky at an early stage: friends listened to boy-bands and I was in love with The Beatles (ultimate boy-band gone rock band – come on!). Classmates got chewed out in school for being to rowdy – I was repeatedly told off for bringing my own books into the classroom and not paying attention to the lessons.
